There is much unknown about Dinah’s daughter, including her name and age. Hardy Murfree’s estate and slave holdings were divided amongst his living relatives after his death in 1814. Among the individuals placed under Dr. James Maney’s ownership were Dinah and his daughter.[i] The two were given a collective monetary value of one-hundred-fifty dollars.[ii] It is unknown if the girl was taken from her mother and other family members as a result of the court decision. Dinah’s daughter likely was taken from her home in North Carolina to work on the Maney’s plantation (present day Oaklands Mansion) in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It is unknown what happened to Dinah’s daughter after 1814.
