Lenna Maney was born in Tennessee in approximately 1850.[i] It is unknown where Lenna Maney was enslaved prior to emancipation. In 1860, David D. Maney was the only member of the Maney family to enslave a ten-year-old girl.[ii] Therefore, Lenna likely was enslaved by David Maney. It is unknown what Lenna’s role on David’s plantation was prior to emancipation.

In 1870, Lenna lived with Nathan and Nance Maney.[iii] Nathan Maney testified after the Civil War that he lived near David Maney’s plantation.[iv] It is unlikely that Lenna was Nathan and Nance’s daughter, and she likely met Nathan prior to emancipation at the Maney’s shared slave quarters. Since Lenna lived with Nathan and Nance, it is assumed that her family had either died or been separated by the slave trade. Lenna found employment as a domestic servant following the Civil War.[v] There are no further records for Lenna Maney. It is unknown whether Lenna ever married or when she died.
