Martha Maney was born in approximately 1845 in Tennessee.[i] It is unknown where Martha was enslaved prior to emancipation. Edwin Keeble was the only member of the Maney to have enslaved several individuals approximately Martha’s age in 1860.[ii] Therefore, Martha was likely enslaved on the Keeble’s property prior to the Civil War. Martha was approximately twenty years old after the Civil War.

Following the Civil War, Martha moved into a home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.[iii] Martha lived in a household with Peggy and Levina Maney.[iv] It is unknown how Martha knew Peggy and Levina or if the women were family members. Martha was unemployed in 1870 and did not work to help support her household.[v] There are no further known records for Martha Maney. It is unknown what happened to Martha after 1870.
