Nathan Maney was born in approximately 1845 in Tennessee.[i] It is unknown exactly where Nathan was enslaved prior to emancipation. David D. Maney enslaved several young men approximately Nathan’s age in 1860, so it is likely that Nathan was enslaved on David Maney’s plantation.[ii] Edwin Keeble also enslaved a man approximately Nathan’s age in 1860.[iii] Therefore, it is also possible that Nathan was enslaved on Edwin Keeble’s plantation.
Following the Civil War, Nathan Maney lived in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.[iv] Nathan lived in a home with Calvin Maney, Winston Holden, and Alia Holden.[v] It is unknown how Nathan knew the Holden family or if he was related to Calvin or the Holdens. Nathan found employment as a farm laborer, though it is unknown by whom he was employed.[vi] There are no further known records for Nathan Maney. It is unknown what happened to Nathan after 1870.
