There is very little information known about Selvey’s child, including the child’s age, gender, and name. The only documentation for Selvey’s child is in Hardy Murfree’s estate settlement. Selvey’s child was amongst the individuals placed under Dr. James Maney’s possession in 1814.[i] Selvey’s child is listed alongside both parents, Selvey and Selvey’s wife, who is also unnamed.[ii] The family was valued as being worth three-hundred dollars on the slave market.[iii] Selvey’s child likely was taken from North Carolina to the Maney plantation (present day Oaklands Mansion) in Murfreesboro, Tennessee after the estate settlement. There are no further records for Selvey’s child. It is unknown if Selvey and his family were taken from other family members or what their roles were on the Maney plantation.
