Elizabeth Maney was born in approximately 1815 in Tennessee.[i] It is unknown where Elizabeth was enslaved prior to emancipation. Lewis Maney was the only member of the Maney family to have enslaved a woman approximately Elizabeth’s age in 1860.[ii] Therefore, it is possible that Elizabeth was enslaved on the Maney plantation (present day Oaklands Mansion) prior to the Civil War. It is assumed that Elizabeth married Zabell Maney, so it is also possible that Elizabeth married into the Maney name but had not been enslaved on the Maney’s plantation.

Following the Civil War, Elizabeth moved into a home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.[iii] Elizabeth lived in a household with Zabell Maney.[iv] It is assumed that Elizabeth married Zabell; however, there are no records to verify their relationship. Elizabeth worked as a farmer, though it is unknown for whom she was employed.[v] There are no further known records for Elizabeth Maney. It is unknown what happened to Elizabeth after 1870.
